4.1.1 Assets: Add Assets – Direct Equities

Direct equities are shares in listed or unlisted companies, either domestic or foreign.

To enter acquisitions of Direct Equities:

From the ASSETS TAB, select ADD NEW ASSET.

Mclowd displays:

Assets Tab Button Menu

Click ADD NEW ASSET.

Mclowd displays:

Assets|Add New

Select the Account.

Assets|Add New|Select Account

Select the Asset Class (Direct Equities) and Asset Category (Domestic or Foreign).

Mclowd now displays:

Add new asset|Direct equities

In the Holding drop down, select whether this is:

  • A new holding and new parcel. (i.e. You are entering a Stock Code and an additional quantity of shares) OR
  • A new holding (i.e. You are entering a Stock Code only)

NOTE: When you have investments listed, you may need to add an additional parcel. For example, if you own Telstra shares and, because they are performing well, you decide to buy more shares. Once you have investments listed, you will see the stock codes for each under ”Your Holdings” in the Holding drop down, and you can select the stock code for the company in which you have purchased more equity.

Enter the Stock Code for the Investment you are entering. When you start to type a Stock Code, a popup list will display from which you can choose the correct asset. The full asset name will display.

NOTE: Check the displayed name carefully to ensure it matches the asset you purchased exactly and that it doesn’t expose an incorrect asset type selection.

In the Listing Status drop down, choose whether this is a Listed or Unlisted asset.

NOTE:  Mclowd only allows selection of equities listed on the ASX.  If you select an ”unlisted” type, you can type in the code and name of a stock listed on a foreign exchange.

In the Equities Section, use the Calendar popup to select the date your Fund purchased this asset.

Enter the original purchase cost.

Enter the Volume (the number of shares purchased).

NOTE: Take care to ensure the purchase date, cost, and volume correctly, as Mclowd will use this information to calculate profit and loss, tax obligations, etc.)

Select the bank or loan account from which you drew funds to purchase these equities.

When you are satisfied that all data has been entered correctly, click SAVE, or if you have more Direct Equities to enter, click SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER.

Continue adding until all your Direct Equities have been entered.

When you SAVE, Mclowd returns you to the Assets screen and displays a list of all the Assets you have added. In the list of Direct Equities, Mclowd displays the volume, purchase date, unit cost, capitalized cost, current market value (obtained by live feed from the ASX for shares in listed companies, and otherwise based on user-entered values), total computed value (number of shares x market value), and any unrealized gain or loss.
